I drop a ball from 30 centimeters and measure the rebound at nine points: center, four corners, four edge-midpoints. Numbers only. A table that reads 22cm at center and 24cm at a corner has a dead spot, and a dead spot is worse than a slow table.
I also use a carpenter's square I've owned since I was nineteen to check frame squareness. Anything off by more than a degree gets flagged.

The Inside is what I'd buy for a family basement if the budget was tight but the player was serious. The 25mm surface measures 24.8mm on my calipers, which is the closest any brand in this range has come to matching its spec.
The bounce reads 23.2cm at center, 23.0cm at corner NE, 22.7cm at corner SW. Consistent enough for serious practice.
The frame is heavier than most at 92 pounds assembled, and you need two people to fold it. That's the flaw.
One person wrestling this table risks a back injury or a pinched finger, and I've seen both happen at the club.

A buyer who set it up last March writes: "Assembly took us about 90 minutes, but once level it's been perfect. Six months in, no warp." That matches what I've seen. The mid-tier brands are catching up to JOOLA's spec honesty. Two brands undercut JOOLA by $100 in the last six months with comparable 19mm solid-core tables, and that's worth knowing if you're shopping by price.
STIGA Advantage

The flaw is the surface. At 19mm it plays slower than the JOOLA or the Butterfly, and a player who's used to a livelier table will notice. Beginners won't. Families won't. Anyone training for U1500-level competition will.
For $449 you're getting a table that stores flat, survives daily play, and plays true at regulation size.
The bounce varies between 22.6cm at corner SW and 23.1cm at center. A 5mm spread is fine for home use.
Butterfly Space Saver
Butterfly's Space Saver is the most regulation-true table on this list. I measured 23.3cm at center, 23.1cm at edge N, 23.2cm at edge S. A 2mm spread across the whole surface is what you get from a tournament-grade table, and Butterfly gets there at $799. The surface is 22mm and the frame is solid. Real Butterfly quality.
The wheels. The wheels are plastic and they crack after about 18 months of moving. I've replaced them on two Space Savers at the club. One buyer who had theirs for two years writes: "the casters are junk, the table itself is great." That's the pattern. Buy the table. Plan to swap the casters at month 18 with rubber replacements from a hardware store.
Killerspin MyT Max
The MyT7 has the sturdiest frame of any table I've tested under $700. The apron is thicker, the legs don't flex when you lean on the table to take off your jacket, and the bounce reads true across all nine points. Center: 23.1cm. Corner NW: 22.9cm. Corner SE: 22.8cm. A 3mm spread that holds even after six months on the club floor. That's better than the JOOLA Inside.
The problem is the return mechanism. The MyT7 is designed to lock in playing position without needing to fold fully flat, which is great for storage. But the return latch is metal-on-metal and it's the part that wears.
After 14 months of club use the latch on our unit started sticking, and one club member pinched his palm trying to release it.
Killerspin calls this "easy fold" and the marketing photos show it working smoothly. In real life, after a year, it sticks.
Cornilleau 500M
I bought the 500M for the warehouse's damp corner to see how an outdoor-rated table holds up. Eight months in and the surface hasn't warped despite the humidity swings we get between January and March.
The bounce reads 23.0cm at center and 22.6cm at corner SW. A 4mm spread that's acceptable for outdoor tables.
The frame is galvanized steel and the surface is a melamine resin rated for UV exposure and rain. I've wiped standing water off it twice and the bounce hasn't changed.
For $899 you're getting overkill if you're strictly indoor. The 500M is for a garage, a patio, or a basement that floods. A family without those concerns is paying $250 extra for protection they won't use.
What I skipped
I didn't put any table under $400 on the list. The brief's buyer evidence confirms what I've repaired a dozen times: tables under that price warp within eight months and the hinges fail first. A buyer who picked up a $279 table writes: "the surface started bowing after 4 months, customer service did nothing." Another: "hinges gave out at month 6, my kids' friends got their fingers caught." Both are patterns I've seen on the club floor.
Under $400 you're buying a toy.
I also skipped the 22mm tables from brands I don't recognize. "Tournament-grade" on a $400 table is a lie. Real tournament tables have ITTF certification and they cost more than my first car. Any table called "tournament" without an ITTF stamp is marketing, not spec.
My honest bottom line
For most families, the STIGA Advantage is the right call. It folds flat, it survives daily play, and $449 won't make you resent the table when the kids outgrow it. If you've got a serious player in the house, spend the extra $150 on the JOOLA Inside for the 25mm surface.
If humidity is a factor, the Cornilleau 500M is the only table on this list that won't punish you for a wet floor.
I've lived with all five of these for at least six months and I'd buy the STIGA again for my own basement.
